Acoustic Panels
I created a customized acoustic panel design for an in-house media team’s renovated recording studio. The clients requested that the design be flexible to fit several contextual uses, reflect the brand and brand assets, as well as meet requirements dealing with proper appearance on camera, different lighting conditions, and scale. This project was primarily self-directed and led, I managed and facilitated client interactions, design development, as well as communications with the fabricator.
OBJECTIVES
Create a flexible design that meets a variety of visual uses
Meet brand guidelines
Create a design that meets scale requirements for lighting and video display
Manage client interactions
Coordinate with fabricators to facilitate pricing and guide design development
Create and issue documentation for fabrication
TOOLS
Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Flexibility/ Agility
The concept relates to client value of agility as well as reflects a brand asset used by the client. This direction allows for different viewing experiences based on the camera angle.
METHOD: Single Layered Acoustic Panel, Etched
Sound Waves/ Rhythm
Concept relates to the idea of energy created by sound and interaction as the client’s space is a host to a number of collaborative events such as podcasting, interviewing, and content creating.
Method: Double Layer Acoustic Panels, Perforated to reveal multiple layers
Preliminary Development.
Conceptual Direction
Brand Asset / Logo
The concept directly reflects the client logo as well as brand values, creating a dynamic pattern using the logo that remains rhythmic and constant throughout the design.
Method: Single Layer Acoustic Panel, Printed
The design for the panels would be fabricated in a multi-layer composition. The back layer is the painted white wall, the middle layer is the partially perforated pattern that would allow light to filter through to the top layer, the top layer being a grid of dots that would align with the middle layer to allow light in from LED lights placed along the wall.
Back Layer
Specific pattern with the intent of allowing light filter to the TOP layer
Top Layer
Grid of perforated dots that align with the back layer to FULLY allow light to reach through the entire panel composition
